spend good money on some quality parts and it won't break! Besides my stupid comment I can't give you much advise at all!

.060 is about as far as you can bore it. But not every block can handle that much overbore. You should get it sonic checked to make sure the walls are thick enough. No matter what though, a .060 job is going to leave you with some thin walls. Most people just go .030 over.

I would imagine you should have the block sonic tested to find out the thickness of the walls.
questions
1.How much $$$ you got to spend?
2.What heads are you using?
3. Where do want the usuable powerband?
4. Is it a 2 or 4 bolt block?
If you want to see a nice 421 inch sbc, look a Netzel's. He did his homework, bought quality used parts and it runs bottom 10's

If I were advising one of my clients on this combo I would not bore a stock 400 block more than .030". The second thing is to use a 2 bolt block and put splaied caps on it. As far as how many cubes. I would not put more than a 3.875" stroke crank in it. This makes a 421 and a realy nice package that will make killer power with a good head. It won't get hot on the street and you can spray it pretty hard without head gasket problems. If you have the money in your budget, a Dart block is nice.

I've heard you need to watch out on your cam profiles too, when you go with more inches. You may need a .900" base circle cam to clear the rods. I don't know what the clearance is like, but it's something to consider.
