I hate to tell you this, but that's what it costs to own a SHO. If you fail to do the rest of the service, the value of that car went to nothjing, and you WILL be looking at major repair expense. SHO's are wonderful cars, but if you don't do the maintenance, they WILL make your life hell!

yeah well **** happens i can get the rest of the stuff done for less locally, im capable of doing the plugs wires, cleaning the tb and runners, and ports on the heads, and im sure i can get the timing belt done on the side for cheap enough, 700 for basic mantinace is really far out there

see this is exactly why i stopped asking questions on here.... i know the 60k has been done on the car before, hell if it wasnt i bought it would still be running, car had trans clutch and flywheel replaced a little over a year ago,
hell i spent 2 hours buffing the car today ...its actually red and shiney now!

Look man, I'm not giving you crap. I'm just saying this isn't you're TD cars or the cheap little engines you are used to. This thing is HELL unless someone who REALLY knows what they are doing works on it. Hell, I've worked on these things a TON, and I still get nervous with them. They are VERY touchy engines. Don't think along the lines of Ford product, think along the lines of late model Porsche. Would you have a backyard mechanic do the same 60k service on a shiney new Porsche Caymen? That's the technology and complication you are dealing with.

Do what ever you feel is right, but I'm just warning you that having someone work on the car without knowing EXACTLY what they are doing WILL haunt you.

ok.... i never thought you were giving me crap.. i know you know these cars better than i do.. i trust my self to do everything EXCEPT timing belt and the valves,... it stil amazes me service motors ford didnt know anything about the valves, maybe i should take the damn thing to pro motor sports instead of a car dealer(pro motor sports is a motor cycle an atv dealer here in fdl) they sell alot of yamahas maybe somethere knows something(cant hurt to check)

You bring it on yourself so don't start pointing fingers at this site or the people on it. If you open the door, people will let themselves in.......

I know jack **** about SHO's but Im guessing its an overhead cam or cams motor and that they most likely use little spacers on top of the valves much like the Jap rockets or my busa and after so many miles ya have to check the clearance on them and possibly shim them? correct me if any one knows better like I said I know nothing of these motors but like to learn. Im with Camaro1 on this to it will be for sale in less than 4 months.

I have owned several SHO's and can attest to what he said. These cars you CANNOT cut corners on. The 60K isn;t hard at all, just time consuming. The valave lash adjustments suck on the rear bank but that is the hardest part. I too woudl recommend Performance Plus if I were the type to take it in. You want it done right, you must pay.

If you cut corners you will end up with JUNK, and if you think I am joking, cut corners and keep the car for 6 months, I will put money on the fact that you will be looking at another engine by then.

Saving money on a 60K on an SHO is stupid. If you save $200 by taking it to a guy who said hes done one before if going to cost you alot more then the $200 you saved by taking it to someone that does these everyday.

not looking to cut corners i realize that alot of the expence is labor, i have nothing against getting the 60k done, just trying to save alittle on the labor aspect

better hope you dont need any shim's as FORD stopped making them about 3 or 4 years ago and almost nobody has them, there are a few shops in the country that do because they work on SHO. Performance Plus in madison, WI or FPS in Douglasville, GA.

I dunno, I was pretty content to wipe the grin off the faces of Boxter drivers in my Taurus.

The problem isn't being able to do something with it. It's you actually keeping a car long enough to do so. Doing the proper research would help as well. These cars have a pretty large aftermarket.
