I've never personally put in a lift. Having said that, I've been looking for a lift for my cherokee and reading every pdf instruction manual I can find along the way. It really doesn't sounds all that hard. If you buy a complete kit, you'll get your longer brake lines, drop pitman, ect. Then what I've heard at least, the hardest part is dealing with rusted bolts. You're not too far from me. If you do go that route, drop a call for help and I bet a few of us will be able to make it over and give you a hand.

if you go 4" at the most you will not need a drop pitman, and if you want to save a lot of money take your springs to wausau spring and have them re-arched. but DO!! put new u-bolts and re tighten after a day or so. the lift install is super easy on that truck.

Putting a lift on a truck like that is really easy. I got a 4" lift on my 83 chevy. It took me a weekend to put it on only because I had to take it off another truck first. If you can use all springs, and not blocks in the rear. I still have my 83 for sale. You could use it for parts if interested.

Straight axle trucks are the easiest things to lift. Pretty much just get all the neccassary parts to lenghten brakes, linkage, ect......... and put in what ever size lift springs you want. Usaully big tires cost more than the lift!

As long as it's not over 3-4" all you need to do is add bigger springs in the back or blocks if you'r not going huge(cheap) and lift coils in the front. Me and my buddy put one in his cherokee, he got three inches to easily clear some 31" tires with helper springs in the rear and 3" lift coils in the front......very,very easy, and very very cheap,if you can take a few bolts out and put them back in you can do it. Coil staright axles are the easiest. What sucks is he went into the air force and his mom sold the whole jeep(with lift, alluminum rims off a newer jeep and tires installed) with a knocking motor for 100 bucks, just to get it out of her yard!!!! Where was I when this happened? Could have junked the jeep, sold the lift, and scrapped the wheels and got at least 300 bucks out of the deal!

It depends on how much lift you want to install and how large of a tire you want too run?The more lift the more you have to do.The problem with adding leafs to get lift is poor ride quality.Blocks are just a poor choice.Use new springs front and rear for best results.if you go as much as 6inches.You need to think about new drive shafts and rotating axles to get rid of to much angle.Taller tires mean you should think about gears also.If intrested my brother is intrested in selling all the parts from his last truck.Complete i believe rugged trail 6in suspesion. The axles are 12bolt rear and 44 front. With 4:88 gears. Both front and rear carriers where changed with gears.Along with the rear posi unit. The tires are 39.5x16x15 super swampers with full size spare on aluminum 15x10 rims.

how much for the wheels? Or the whole truck? Whats the bolt pattern? My dad is looking for some 8 lug chevy wheels, a lift, and some nice big tires for his 77 chevy he is redoing.

I recently installed Full Width axles on my 91 Explorer, fabricated new trac bar mounts, shock mounts, coil buckets etc for the front and not too much fab for the rear. The ride quality is Far superior to a stock explorer based on doing some critical research and precise calculations before I started. Total net lift is 7.25" plus the 3" body lift to clear a FI 351W/C4/Dana 20 twin stick combo. I run 35x15.50 x15 TSL SSR super swampers and as you can see at full articulation I STILL have plenty of clearance in the fender wells. Next on my plate are a full pre runner style front and rear 4" bulge fenders made by McNeil Racing.

Nice truck. Hopefully I can get some wheel travel in my jeep like that. If I could ever find what I need for the lift.
