My converter is just too damned loose and either it took out my tranny or the tranny ate it, but it is noisy and my tranny fluid is glittery. The converter was showing over 16% slip on the big end and was VERY soft off the line (1.8X 60' times). I'd like to get it rebuilt, but am unsure of its origin. It looks like a good converter judging from it's construction on the outside. I was told by the guy I got if from it was a Coan, but he took it out of his Chevelle that he bought from a guy, who bought it from another guy who raced it, you know the story.

Anyways, are there any good places somewhat local that could help me out with a rebuild/restall of this converter? I am on a really tight budget this year with the garage build, the wife's medical bills and my Pontiac's new drivetrain, etc, but I'd like to be able to play at the track.

What do you guys think?

Pat told me it would be $75 to cut it open and the price will start from there.

I honestly don't think you are going to do much better thasn that price for quality work.
Last one I had done I sent out toa converter builder who only charges for what he actually does and ended up being a complete basket case needing a lot of repair and it came to like $230 with return shipping. That one had major problems though, plus I upgraded the hub and had lockup friction upgraded as well. Point being I would think your end cost should be less since you should not need to do things like the upgraded hub and have no lockup to replace.
