Any Ford Techs?

I got a 97 mercury mystique that has a tranny prob. It will not shift into 2nd gear. If I accelerate thru 1st and let up it will shift into 3rd and then no overdrive. When this first happened the overdrive indicator light on the dash started flashing. I pulled the dipstick and fluid level is fine, and it doesnt smell burnt. I talked to a few people and they thought it may be a vehicle speed sensor, or shift solenoid? If anyone knows of a fix or what exactly causes it please let me know.

If its any thing like my Ma's crown vic what usually happens is a small linkage inside wears out and needs to be replaced I guess its a easy fix if ya know what your doing.
