View Full Version : clutch turbo
Anybody know or have any info on a th-350 or 400 setup that uses a clutch and pressure plate instead of a torque converter? This was brought up on another site and I was wanting to see if I could learn more about it.
It seemed interesting and I had never heard of this being done before. Some of the guys were saying they had used this setup in the early 70's so its not a new concept.
I can't seem to come up with any info searching the web.

i have seen this set up, you cut off the bellhousing from the 350 then the new bellhousing bolts to the trans using the pump bolt holes, then there is a hub to connect the clutch to the pump
and since you no longer have a torque converter you dont need a trans cooler
a guy in stevens point has one of these setups
i used to have a catalog that had the kits in it but it has been a long time since i have seen them for sale anywhere

I've seen this set up before as well. New Build's brother in law had this set up on his Chevelle many years ago.....maybe he is still using it. I don't know much about it though.

:humpleg: back in the 60's the bad ass mopar dudes were runnin the
727 clutchflite at the drags and puttin a whoopin on just about everyone in superstock classes :stroke:
I bet that would work awesome today with all the nitrous flying around and the cost of getting your converter just right .
Ram clutches is making some really good stuff these days. nice lightweight .
dual disc stuff . :hehe:
