I finally got the 454 running and made a bunch of aluminum shavings under the valve covers. I had to go with very short pushrods to get the roller pattern correct on the valve tip. Now with everything together, the rocker arms rub the guide plates. Here is what I have. '97 454 with Edelbrock TBI heads, flat and angle milled to 94 cc chambers, Lunati Voodoo 60622 hyd roller cam 282/290 adv dur,231/239 @ .050 dur, .600/.600 lift, 110 LSA, Comp Cams guide plates and rocker studs, Harland Sharpe 1.7 ratio full roller rockers. The pushrods are Manley 7.500" and 8.400". The picture is of the #2 cylinder rocker arms etc... Some rubbed some didn't.

What are my options? Lashcaps? Guided rockerarms to eliminate the guide plates?

I hope I don't have to get longer valves at this point. I don't want to keep throwing money at this thing if I don't have to, but I certainly can't leave it like this.

HELP!!!

I think Shane (1fastdeuce) can help you. I'm sure he will reply when he comes on. BBC engines are greek to me......

I've read on other forums that the Comp Cams guide plates have a sharper radius where the rocker arm is. That possibly the GM ones will provide more clearance. I am going to check that tomorrow. I also saw that Erson makes flat guideplates for BBC, anyone have experience with them?

I'll trade you heads for some stock 049's, this will solve your problems Mike.

You could go with the idea that Ryan gave which has been done many of time with no problems, go with the flat guide plates, mill the pedistal(sp?) on the heads, or spend more money and get comp cams or crower steel roller rockers or even better yet a shaft set up. My cheap choice would be to pull the heads off and mill about .050 off of the pedistal's.

I was going to try the factory set of guideplates I have, but the mounting holes are too small. Soooo...

I went down to Competition Products today. Eric and Butch helped me out and we looked at all of the guideplates they offer. The Comp Cams guides are WAY taller than others. I got a nice low profile set and everything clears by a mile now. Now I just need to get the rest of the crap finished and find some rear tires.

That's good to hear. Hopefully you can find some tire's so we can see it at RSD.
