well i had decided and purchased new gears for the impala, kinda drastic but no way to know for sure till you try, im swapping out the new 3.73 for 4.56. huge step i know but i figure since i went with allmost a 5 inch bigger tire that this may not be as bad as im thinking, i was running a 25.5 tire before and the new ebay specials are allmost 30 inches. let me know what you guys are thinking, should maybe help get my leadsled moving off the line a little better. also do you guys think i should be seriously looking into overdrive? im not a fan of 200's or 700's, im a turbo 400 guy forever but i been looking at Gear Vendors overdrive unit that bolts behind tranny, kinda hot rod style, worth it? those dam things run around 2 grand. when i had the 3.73 with the 25.5 tire, at 65 mph i was around 3200rpm, can anyone guess what it will be with a 30 inch tire and 4.56's?

your rpm at 65 should be about the same..3000 rpm.
the GV OD would be neat, the price is crazy, but you can split each gear

Yeah the overdrive unit is kinda of a waste of money in my opnion, but if you can afford it and you want it, try it. I don;t know how that woudl hold up in a drag racing environment though.
I woudl be happy with the 3000-3200RPM at 65 MPH. My Mustang with a C4 26" tal tire and 4.10 gearing went like 3200-3300 at 65 MPH.. it was fine for me, I just lived with it..

$2000 for the gear vendors overdrive thats cheap. I saw them for between $2800 and $3200. GUys on the chevelle site run them and love them. The only thing is it seems that your rpms are still higher then the 200 and 700 trans from what i saw posted about them.

didn't that stacy guy on trucks tv put a GV OD behind the 572 he built for that copper head truck. I would think it should hold up.......... mabee.
if you are 5" taller i think that you would be around the same rpm's with that 4.56 mabey a bit less even.
i ran 4.10's with a 26", then 4.56 with a 28" and they went through the traps REAL close.

GV says they are good for up to 1300hp, as far as the price goes, i allready have a pretty much bullet proof tranny and for me to buy a new race tranny or even a regular overdrive trannt, they all run close in price for good stuff, i could handle 3200 rpm but when the car puts on hundreds of miles a summer its nice to get a little mileage out of it
