View Full Version : 12 bolt questions? or Ford 9in??

My buddy has a 1980 Maiblu and is starting things in the back. Wnat to get a 12 bolt, but are there any years to look for for any reason?? And modifcation that needs to be done to get a 12 bolt under the car?? A ford 9in is also an opition...thanks guys!! NEwbie here..

early car 12 bolts bolt in, youll need to move the upper hole in the control arm back , or get new upper arms. you will also need a shorter driveshaft. By the time you find one it might be cheaper to get a 9". 8.5" 10 bolts also bolt in, easy to find and cheap...if you look in older full size BOP's you can even find ones without c-clips.

I put a 12 bolt in my 80 malibu out of a 70 chevelle.It bolted right in no problems.Only thing is I bought a pair of adjustable upper control arms from Iceman on Malibu racing and there for the conversion swap for a 12 bolt in a malibu.They say that the angle is a little different on the control arms and can bind if you dont get these arms.
