Hi gang,

I am going to install a DC/AC power inverter into a 1992 Caravan for a guy I know.

-Does anyone know of a relay that will handle a 500W inveter? A part number would be very helpful. I'm thinking 30/40A will do it.

-Is there a site w/ caravan schematics? I'd really like to wire it to the key.
Here is my schematic so far, please tell me if it is correct.

Thanks as always,

edit, must decrease size...

That looks right. A normal automotive relay should work (since lots of guys run them off the cigarette lighter) and the cig lighter fuse is only 30-35 amp. If you want something bigger, I've got a few outboard starter relays (big amp). I could send one your way. They work really well, and are no bigger than an automotive relay.

Thanks,

I have a few ford style starter solenoids that I was thinking of using, but am afraid they would burn up if left powered on for a long time. I would like to have a heavier-duty (I know, I made that up) relay than the one I found at Farm and fleet. It has spade terminals and I'd really like to have a stud w/ a nut or something a little tougher (similar to the ford/tractor/OMC style soleinoid).

The other limitation of the little spade terminal is the wire size. I don't think #4 is going to fit in one of those cheezy solderless terminals. Considering we are using #4 right off of the batt. I'd like something that has a locking connector (or a stud/nut). Even with a fusible link from the batt to the relay if the big hot wire rattled loose from the spade terminal on the relay it would start things on fire in a hurry.

Sorry for the novel, just trying to see what's out there.

Thanks,

Yeah, the one I've got looks pretty similar to your Ford starter relay.

What about the 75 amp one on this page?
