Yes and the cost associated with building a big block chevy is alot cheaper than a cadillac. More parts available and therefore cheaper.

once again opinions vary, you can build a BOP that makes more TQ, which is what he wants, for way cheaper than a chevy.

Yes, well I'm sure he wants some HP to go with that torque and I guarantee you wouldn't build a Pontiac cheaper than a big block Chevy. I believe the only aftermarket head for a Pontiac is made by Edelbrock. Stock Pontiac heads flow for shit and porting to make decent power isn't cheap unless you know what you're doing. My friend just built a 455 so I saw what he made and what he paid on the dyno.

true pontiac heads arent cheap, but a good port job on a cast head will net you over 75- HP, it will cost some $$ but its way cheaper than the Edel's. Add up what a 500 HP BBC cost and Ill do it for far less in a Pontaic. your a chevy guy, Im a pontaic guy who built a 455?? did he use the 400 block?

Not sure what block he used. You ever have your engine dynoed. Costs alot to make 500 HP in any motor. You know Pontiacs better tham ne but I still think you wouldn't build a 500 HP Pontiac cheaper than I could build a 500 HP BBC. Those Pontiacs make big torque but cost money to squeeze 500HP out of one. Just my thoughts.

Pontiac blocks aren't cheap either. $3400 for a regular deck and $3800 for a tall deck!!!!!! You could almost build an entire BBC short block for that money.

you use a stock 389/400 block and get a "new" stroker crank that will give you like 467 cubes.

you don't need that for what you are doing.........unless you plan on running pro stock in the near future

doesn't your sig say "Happiness is measured in cubic inches"?

You can go REALLY huge with those blocks and still be streetable. I'm not sure what I want to do. I should catch up on some bills, since I was unemployed for over a year. I'm still throwing some ideas around.

You can go 632 with a big block chevy and still be streetable. How much bigger do you want?

That's what I'm saying, you could almost build a 632 shortblock for the price of a chief many horses

HELLO.....are you interested in a 598! It could be lowered compression wise easy enough to be streetable, smaller cam. It would rock. Let me know!

you dont need mr cheifs block to make HP in a pontiac, you can build a complete motor for that much

10k? I have someone that wants to trade me this motor for my trailer? I realize its alot of money but you get alot of cubes per dollar!

I just see you talking about 632s and pontiacs and them blocks I figured instead of you spending 22k on one of the pontiac type motors you could spend half of that. You will definetly need to back half your truck if your going big block.

22k in a pontiac motor, WTF!!!

The main thing I want is a streetable car that is fast. I'm sick of being the slowest guy around and having a vehicle that isn't even really streetable. If it was a daily driver I could see not being able to get into the 12 as OK, but I can barely drive the thing to work if I want to, because of the gear/tire combo. If I switch to a taller gear then the thing will be really slow. I already have 2.12 60' times I don't want to make them even worse. Yes I know I can bolt on a bottle and get there, but HP is like a drug and I get addicted easily. I'd be broke just filling the bottle for my daily commute or a weekend cruise. More cubes is the only way to go, so if I'm going to spend $6000 on an engine, I'd rather spend it on a big block. Big blocks will always have the advantage over small blocks just for the simple fact the cylinders are bigger and unshroud the valves. I can live with a small weight penalty for the low end torque and beefier parts reliability. I'm seriously considering selling everything I have and starting over. I was really stupid to pick an s-10 Blazer as a project and not something bigger and more popular. I just like cars that are different I guess, I don't like being like everyone else.

"Im sick of being the slowest guy around.." face it, there is always someone faster, build something your happy with!! Being fastest is alright, but its much more fun to be able to drive it everyday.

That's why when I started this I wanted a daily drivable 12 second car. Now it's a barely drivable 13 second POS.

Knudsonm, save up some cash and give me the cash and your Blazer for a month over the winter. When you get it back after me and Eric are done with it you will be very happy!

just build a blue printed and balanced ls6 big block chevy use a rpm air gap an 850 holley double pump msd ignition and a roller cam if want and easly make 525+hp and mountens of low end tork and it will be real streetable
