I have an X cam if that will work. I will be up in 3 weeks so you wouldn't have to ship it if ya can wait that long.

X cam? I am not to up and up on cams right now. I need a cam for a 85? 302 roller motor. I would like to keep the original rollers if I could.
Would the X cam work with the rollers?
jdsgallops
08-20-2003, 08:37 AM
The X cam is basicly a B cam with more lift. Specs out at 224/224@.050 .542/.542 on a 112. Yes it is a roller cam. I don't think it will fit with the trick flows I have on a stock shortblock and I don't want to waste my time to find out so it needs to go. I have $80 invested in it.

I don't know off hand how much I can go above 500. lift with the stock rollers. I will do some research and let you know.
i don't think the lifters will matter as much as your pistons snow.
snowseeker
08-20-2003, 12:04 PM
Pistons are over rated anyhow! :)
I guess the stock roller dogbones are only good up to a certain lift. Anything over that lift will make the dogbones bind causing either the cam to break and / or a valve to go threw the piston.
Red, do you have any info on the piston to valve clearance on a 85 roller with flat tops stock?

Stock dogbones will handle at least .620 lift. I had a .620 roller in my blue car for a while. Piston to valve clearance will need to be checked with the cam in. You will have to clay the pistons. I wouldn't run it with stock heads. The car will be a pooch.

I'm not to woried about it being fast. This is going to be a cruiser car. Just want it to sound good.
Bring the X cam up with you jdsgallops.

Will do. I have a piston to valve program I can run for you if you provide me with your specs. Provided I can ever get it installed. I am pretty sure it should clear. The trick flow stage 2 cam is reported to clear with Twisted wedge heads and it is the same intake lobe. I don't have a stock 2.02 valve in my heads so I don't want to get the car apart to find it won't clear.
i have a set of 11-1 ross forged pistons with big valve reliefs here that would be great in a street motor .

If darrel doesn't take them, how much red? Are they stock bore?
jdsgallops
08-21-2003, 07:34 PM
Snow what else do you need? I have a ton of stuff to get rid of up there yet, including a complete rotating assembly that has Ross pistons too and has been balanced. That is what I wanted the block for that I was gonna get from ya. Only problem is they are dished pistons as they are for small chamber heads, which I also have. It is an early crank though so you would have to machine the oil slinger dow to fit the one piece seal block. Other than that it just needs some cleaning and a block honed to fit. It is actually the parts out of my old stang that use to run mid 13's. Pm me if you are interested, I will let this go really cheap.

jdsgallops : I don't need alot. So far I have: Complete long block, intake, carb, waterpump.
I need an oil pan for a 65 stang, distributor/ignition, valve covers, cam, freeze plugs, and cam bearings.
Red: Thats ok, I don't think I want bore the block. :)
Thanks for the offer anyhow.

Snow I am driving up, as I am moving all my stuff down here, finally. So I am hoping we can meet in Green Bay. Sunday the 14th would work fine for me, I will probably be in Green bay anyway visiting friends. If that works let me know. West side anywhere near 29 will be fine.
