So I currently have a 4.08 differential but I am looking at possibly getting a 4.36 gear for it. What do you guys think the difference is going to be, big enough to notice or not worth the $300?

The question is, does your car need it? What does it go thru the traps at now? You can slow a car down by over gearing it just as easy as you can by undergearing it.

I have no clue what it traps at now, my guess is 115 or so. Currently the car has a 4.08 differential.

My guess would be that Darrell meant what rpm does it go through at? Are you still in the power band??

Ahh I dont even know, haven't run the car yet. It should be somewhere in 4th gear probably with 1500-2000 rpms left or so.
Thanks for the help guys, gearing a car for the 1/4 mile is something I havent ever really played around with but I just came across these new gears. They are also available in a 4.66 and 4.94 ratio.

My advice Evan, would be to run it the way it is right now to get a baseline. You might not need to change gears, you might be better off putting that money elsewhere. You really won't know until you run the car the way it is.

Exactly what he said. Run it first, see where it's at before changing anything.

Well I can get a good deal on the gears since they just came out is the only reason I am considering it right now.

the transmission gear ratios are:
1st: 3.21:1
2nd: 1.93:1
3rd: 1.30:1
4th: 1.00:1
5th: 0.75:1
And the car is on a 16" 50 series tire.
I dont know if that info helps

do you know or heard of anyone that made this gear change and what it did to their times/speed?

Guys have upgraded from the stock 3.73s to 4.10s and seen a huge improvement. The 4.36s are a new thing on the market. A similar car with less power came with 4.08s and putting 4.36s on it netted a big gain.

I would see where youre at first, its pointless to guess based off what other guys are doing.

Which car?
What is the estimated power and torque output at the crank? With that info, I might be able to fudge some numbers.

est. power is like 375whp and approx 340-350ftlbs
I have one of the first 3 gear sets on reserve so need to figure it out by the end of the week.

I did some calculations and the speed at the redline right now with the 4.08s is 128mph vs 119mph with the 4.36s
so what do you guys think? worth getting them or not?

you need to know what your trap speed is though to make sure you get the right gear for the 1/4 mile.
