first where can i get the propper speedomiter gear to correct my speedo for 4.10gears?

also someone said something about having to get the ecu reprogrammed for the shift points?? at normal driving it shifts realy early now like...1200-1400 rpms it will shift into second and so on threw all gears.but will shift nce and crisp and hard into all gears under hard driving....is there a way to correct the early shifts or am i just s.o.l. and have to deal with it?

89 5.0 aod 8.8 4.10 gears for thoughs who dont know

your mustang only requires a speedo gear . They are about $12.95. 15 minutes to put in too, even if you have never done it before.. assuming the exhaust is cold..

You need the following for an automatic trans:

4.10 Gear Ratio / White 23 Speedo Gear

Jeep Part #j3167393 4.10 Gear Ratio / White 23 Speedo Gear

This is the only gear to make a 4.10 in an AOD correct on the speedo.. ford does nto make a gear for that.

As far as shift points, they are not electronically adjutable on an AOD unless you have an AODE if i am not mistaken. Make sure that your throttle cable and TV cable are adjusted correctly.

uh.....automatic driven gear choices are listed in the last column. So with 4.10 final gear ratio the only combination that will work in an automatic is a black 6 tooth drive gear (p/n E3ZZ-B) with an orange 20 tooth driven gear (p/n C8SZ-B).

The 23 tooth gear that is available from places like Mustangs Unlimited is a bandaid at best. They tend to self destruct in short order and may get you closer to being accurate, but the best way to make sure it is accurate and just not close is to match the drive and driven gears accordingly. Then you know your speedo is going to be correct. What sucks is if you need to change your drive gear which is the one inside the transmission. I am not sure which of the three drive gears available come in the AOD trans.

What he said. the mesh on the 23 tooth isnt very good, they wear down quickly. The proper way is changing the drive gear also, but its a pain. Unless you go with a 28" tall tire, then its all different.

Why would I call them? I dont' need any answers from them. Been there done that on more than a couple cars all with different ratios and the end result was the same......garbage.

Your commment was "This isthe only gear to make a 4.10 in an AOD correct on the speedo.. ford does not make a gear for that." Which is an incorrect statement. I posted a chart with the correct drive and driven gears information and you couldn't even read the chart.

If I remember correctly Ford isn't the one that actually came out with the 23 tooth driven gear. It isnt' a factory application for any Ford car or truck as far a I know. The aftermarket stepped in to make it easier for the people that are too lazy or don't have the know-how to change the drive gear in relationship to the correct driven gear.

You then proceeded to comment that the info that you did provide was because 4cfed is cheap. Sounds like a cover up for misguided information. That fact of the matter is the chart provides every drive and driven gear available direct from Ford's parts bins that Ford produces. I dont' see a bandaid 23 tooth driven gear on it. It isn't on it for a reason.......so why do I need to call them? Because you think that the 23 tooth is the best and only solution. There is an alternative that happens to be the better choice. Get a clue..I only provided more information to help him, not to try and make you or anyone else look/sound dumb.

no please do stop!! if you want cmon over to the rip snortin forum im sure kraus(new build) would give you two your own section...he gave me and luke one lol..

but back at subject at hand it not that im cheap its that my mustang is my only daily driver i drive it everywhere to work all over the place so down time is critical to me..seeing that i have one day off a week its all about time..so i was looking for the quickest solution to my problem

Wicked
