The purpose of the firewall adjuster is to not have to crawl under the car and adjust the clutch(many of them use a stock non adjustable cable). All you need to do is take the slack out of the cable and then turn the adjuster until the clutch engages at the point you like it. Start with the firewall adjuster all the way in and the nuts on the cable 1/2-3/4 the way down on the threads. This will give you maximum adjustment without preloading the cable too much and possibly streaching it.

I took everything lose and started with adjuster all the way in .Adjusted cable nut to fork turn in 3 turns. Then checked pedal drop about 1/2 inch then firm .So lifted it up let clutch out slowly, about 1 inch off floor engages.Adjusted adjuster 2-3 turns out seems alot better.Tried it seems to work better won't know till I run it again second doesn't seem to like hard shifts On drag radials. On street seems alot better. So I guess well see.

Your 1-2 shift is hard because the clutch does not have enough air gap. You are moving the shifter faster than the clutch pedal is moving. This means you want to move the clutch more. That is why you should put more preload than 3 turns on the nut by the clutch fork. Not sure what quadrant you have but if it is a triple hook setup place the cable in the middle hook. The middle hook is the same ratio that the new so called fast ramp quadrants are(I found this out the hard way when i went with my new setup). This will give you more air gap faster improving shifts.

Single is not bad you just don't have the ramp speed to get the gap faster. Simply put more preload on the clutch fork and then continue to adjust at the firewall until you get the car shifting smoothly and the clutch pedal where you want it. I also found a big difference in the clutch cable. I was sent one for 96+ cars which is a bit longer than the fox cars. The bigger arc created by the longer cable really made the car smoother. For now jut keep adjusting until the car shifts how you want.

I think its close.I adjusted adjuster to about 5 turns out then adjusted nut on fork so it was mid cable.Took it out launched it about 3500,slammed seconed seemed pretty good. Will drive it a lil bit and see how she feels. Thanks for the info jdsgallops
