I going to be putting a auto in my car and was wondering what size trans cooler i need? IT isn't going to be run trough my radiator, just through the cooler its self. Would it be ok using the high pressure rubber hose for the lines? I dont have the extra money to use braided line.
thanks,

I have a cooler that is 3/4" x 10" x 17" on mine and the tranny runs between 140-160. I also have a tight converter in the car so that will keep the temp down.I would recommend getting the biggest cooler you can find and put a temp gauge in the pan and keep an eye on it. As long as your not slipping the converter, the tranny really doesn't make much heat.

Do you run rubber, braided or hard lines for the cooler.

:werd: I always went with the biggest cooler I could fit on my rad. Never had a problem with heat, even without the internal radiator cooler hooked in. I guess the cooler the trans. the better!

I run 5/16" steel lines to the cooler and have just enough rubber line to connect the steel to the cooler. Its just black rubber fuel line.

I made my cooler lines out of 3/8 steel fuel line from the parts store. Just bent them up with a tubing bender. Also used compression fittings for the joints, 'cause rubber hose and hose clamps looks like shit and always gives you problems in the long run. Braded hose would be nice but, its $$$$$!

I also mounted the cooler in the back of my car so it wouldn't be blocking airflow through my radiator.

I have the biggest cooler Summit sells with hard lines from the tranny to the cooler and then a couple of short rubber hoses connecting them. Don't even bother with the tranny heater in the radiator.

I had a 3500 Stall in my Mustang and ran a 3/4 x 12 x 16 cooler and it kept the trans at around 160 on back to back 1/4 mile runs. Before that I had a cooler on there that was much smaller and after 3-4 runs the trans temp would hover around 200 to 210 or so. I also used good quaility rubber lines with standard hose clamps and it worked perfectly.

I run the biggest one that fit and I also run a electric fan on mine to keep it cool.. Works good..
