View Full Version : Couple questions
I was told that the Y-type harness's are now illegal and will not be approved at WIR, why is this? I hope this is not true because i just bought belts in february.
Second, why can't i run a primered car at WIR? So if my cars in primer i can't bracket race at??? That also sucks because i just spent the last two days sanding just so the thing wouldn't be multi-colored.

Ahhhhhhhh Yes yet another one who feels the rath of the WIR spec rule book. A rule book that has no rules until they feel like using them. I think we have had this discussion many times before. Doesn't sound like any one there is listening though.

There is a big difference between a single digit bumper dragger and a 13/14 second car as far as attendance and rules go.

well? if your body panels are not flapping in the breese then ? why not let them race.. some of the faster car ive seen are real buckets if you look close, any how it will cost you $50 to make your car look good in primer why not sped a little extra and buy some automotive paint ? i can paint a car for less than $200 if someone is willing to do the body work and help with the prep

The y-type harness rule is not WIR, it is a NHRA rule, they no longer meet SFI spec, and if you look in the NHRA rule book, it states a five point harness meeting SFI spec. #-##. As far as primer, I am sure if your car is looking respectable and is one solid color primer they would let you run. Just so it doesn't look like it came straight out of the body shop in the middle of major repairs. This is my opinion on the paint, but the WIR crew will have to make the call on this. They just don't want the image of a bunch of fixer-uppers going down the track. It needs to be a professional appearing show.
My belts meets SFI spec, they say right on them, good till february 07.
My truck is not a rust bucket, its presentable the way it is, i would rather just have it all one color, primer for now, maybe i'll spray it white or yellow to hide my terrible body work, but we'll have to see how busy my brother is at the shop.
These are the belts i bought

Hey fellas ,
I'm sure that if you come to the track with your primer colored car , and it looks all one color and not shabby they will let you race .
Did any of you guys see the early 60's ford falcon last year ?
that car is all rusty and primered around the rear fenders etc.
that car has been running highschool friday nights and saturday drags for at least 3 years . The car looks like shit and yet it still is on the track every year :lolhit:

I would tend to guess unless your truck is running quicker than 9 seconds that the belts you have will be just fine .
I have seen some compassion from the WIR tech inspectors . it seems much depends on how fast you are and what class you enter and the overall condition of your car .
I would not worry too much about it , if you drive up and get inspected and they find something they don't like and it is not a real safety hazard they will let you race but will want it fixed by your next visit :nono:

just dump a little paint into your primer before you spray it it gives the car a nice satin finish
i think the belts are fine bohn333. they are going to grandfather them in until they are all gone from what i heard.
i think the primer rule is the same as the rule you cannot stage before someone pre-stages. it's a rule but nobody ever enforces it.
i feel better now, i thought i was doing the right thing with the belts, the factory one were junk. I highly dought i'll be fast enough for them to complain about.
We'll see about the paint, i think black primer is what its gonna be, i don't think i'll spend the money to make it real pretty. I'm gonna end up throwing this drivetrian in something else anyways.

Go to wal-mart or fleet farm and buy some of those cheap stick on flames for it and it will look tremendous :banme:

Magnetic flames are sweet!! :funyshit: I know a certain someone who has stick on flames on the front fender of his bike!! Anyway, I agree with UPDragracer on this one. That ugly Falcon has been there for years and they never keep him from running. Your stuff has got to be pretty shitty for them to care. And they are pretty easy going at tech inspection if you listen to them and do what they tell you to, they will let you run even if you have something they don't like as long as it is fixed for the next visit.

Who the fu*k cares? They've been coming to friday night drags for a lot longer than 3 years...
So what happened to budget drag racing? A car has to be all one color to race? What the fu*k is that? Maybe if WIR would ever pave their goddamn pits, people wouldn't be afraid to paint their shit and bring it to the track.
I can see if the car has chunks of body panels hanging off of it, but that falcon is a solid car IIRC, so quit bashing, and don't be an asshole.

I was not bashing the car just making point that a primered car can race at WIR :nono: and I was not intending to be an asshole :nono:
