View Full Version : first real ride
got my chip today and went for a real ride in my bird, it reminded me on how i hate 700R4 tranny's. It shifts to fast at part throttle and to late at full throttle. I know why it shifts late...wrong springs in the govenor. But the shifting early is the TV cable, I guess its a trial and error type thing in adjusting it. But the thing gets up and goes !!! i think its faster than my truck. Sure feels like it. Its the first time the thing has ever really moved since my brother put it together. Ran great and nice and cool, Ticks me off though that the service engine soon light is still on. Should of went off with the chip change, oh well alittle minor tuning and it will be all set.
Its damn easy to change lanes though..just step on the brakes, i think only one caliper works..lol.

also don't forget torque is what makes a car feel fast. Going from a carb to a tpi setup is bound to make the car feel faster. When I go my Cobra it felt faster than my old 83, yet when the numbers showed up on the slip, it wasn't.Some tuning and new parts has hopefully changed that. Just don't be surprised when the number doesn't match the SOTP though.
well..i know that it will run a high 13, low 14, because i did run it once with my truck down the side street when my brother first put it together. And my truck ran 13.8's to 14 flat on street tires all day long. Now that i'm starting to figure out how to tune it, it feels more torquey than before. The chip really seemed to wake it up.
Oh yeah..the bird was right at my trucks door all the way down. so with traction its just as quick.
