Has anyone put a T-5 v-8 trans in a earler vehical. My nepheu wants to pull the 4 speed from his 66 chevy truck and replace it with a T-5 from a earler camaro or bird. He says the fule milage sucks with the 4 speed. 406 and a 3.55 gears I wonder where he came up with that. So I could use some information and prices on a T-5 from a V-8 car. Call or post 920-901-9777 Thanks Ralph

A stock t5 won't stand up to a 406.A worldclass t5 from an 88 up camaro firebird might last a little while if on street radials, but any type of sticky tire will break it quick.Usually the 3rd gen crowd wants between $500 and $700 for a worldclass.Contact Gforce transmissions and they can probobly hook you up with some stronger gears and input shafts for the worldclasst5. He would also have to goto a hydraulic clutch set up.

It will break the first time it hooks with the torque of that engine. I'd get something like Kamu has in his camaro, i'm not sure but i think its a Tremec 5 speed. or go the old fashion route and drop in a Muncie.

I think he would stay on street tires. He want to stay with the old style linkage not hydraulic if it can be done. I will need more information on the subject before he makes a decission on the trans. Thanks

I don't think he will be able to keep the old style linkage. I'm pretty sure that the only manual linkage tranny in a 3rd gen was a 4 speed in 82.

The T-5 from a third gen car is bolted to the bellhousing at a angle. so if you use one you have to use the bellhousing also. as far as I know all of the bellhousing are set up for hydraulic linkage. Also the stock T-5 will not hold up. He should try to find a wrecked fourth gen car and use the T-56 six speed it is stronger and 5th and 6th gear are overdrive. Or he could go with a tremec like I use. They have come down in price since I bought mine. check here http://www.keislerauto.com/gm/transmissions/builder.asp
