Vacuum guage fluctuates

I got a vacuum guage to set the mixture screws on my carb. When at idle it fluctuates about 2 psi.When i give it a little gas it stays steady.Is this normal or do I have a vacuum leak? My intake is leaking oil so thats my first thought.I am also suspisious of my valve springs being weak,would that also cause the fluctuatuion?

How big is the cam? overlap will cause some fluctuation at low engine speeds

In my experience any cam with more than ☺75 deg. o-lap will do what you are describing.

Thanks for the replies. I talked to the guy who built the motor and he said it was normal.
