Can i use a older 9" W case center section in any 9" housing?

I found a place in IL that will sell me a complete bolt in housing with axles, studs, retainers and bearings for $695. I want to use my center section but have it rebuilt with a different carrier to accomodate the moser axles spline of my choice and also put some 4.10 gears in it.

Any 9 inch ford will work. The only difference would be in the splines in the center section. 28-31-35-40. I had mine done by currie and the center came out of a wagon with the 4.11 the last one I have no idea what it came out off. I put the 4.33 in and went with that.

The thing to watch out for is the axle size....i.e. the # of splines. That will dictate the size of the bearing that you need to run in the carrier. The carriers themselves will all bolt in.

Early Lincoln's like '69 through '71 Mark series had a nine and three quarter in. rear that looks identical to a regular 9in. but the center sec. will not fit in a regular 9in. housing. As long as you don't have one of those you should be fine.
