I was wondering what everyone does for a cam breakin. I've been getting mixed feelings from everyone i've talked to. The cam company's and some other ppl tell me to take the inner springs out and break it in and put the inners back in. Others say that i can just leave the springs alone and break it in. I just want to know everyones opions. I stuck a lot of $ in this cam change and went with the best stuff instead of skimping and going with cheap stuff. I put all new double springs, 10degree locks and retainers, really good pushrods, a custom ground cam and the EDS solid lifters. The double springs 125lbs/325lbs pressure.
thanks,

At 125 on the seat i wouldn't worry about it. Just start it up and let it run for a 15 - 20 minutes from 2000 - 3000. DON'T LET IT IDLE FOR EXTENDED PERIODS and you'll be fine.

Just make sure you have everything covered in cam lube. As Dave said keep the rpm's 2000-3000. Get everything set on the money so when you turn the key it runs.

I tend to polish the lifter bottoms with 1200 grit wet paper {oil} before I install them I think the machined finish on the bottom of new lifters is way too harsh . Smokey Yunick did this to all his lifters . and I have never had a cam lobe round off since I started doing this :beerbuds:

Along with what was said above, I am a fan of preoiling. People argue that this is not needed but I am overly cautious. Also, it is not a bad idea to pressure test the cooling system so you are not running around like a chicken with your head cut off when it lights up.
Good luck! :beerbuds:

So i take it i should just leave the double springs. I was just worried about that because the cam company's say that and i think at that presure thats a lot of screwing around. I have big can of molly lube and GM EOS for the break in. The cam designer also said break it in with 30wt. I was wondering if 20w50 would be fine or use the 30w.

135 at the seat is not much. I wouldn't worry about it. 20W50 will be fine.

I always use straight 30 for break in and then chnage the oil after 15-20 minutes of run time. Whether that is right or wrong I don't know but it always works for me.
