Yes there is a mini spool for the 7.5 " rear but if you are planning on using slicks, the 7.5 will not last through one high RPM launch.
If you keep street tires on it, the 7.5 with a mini spool will last for awhile, but have some e axles at all times..

Yank it out and pick up an 8.8.
If its a street car, dont weld the rear or run a spool. I assume its a 4 speed car? Go 4.10s and dont look back!

A 7.5 will last plenty long, behind a fair amount of horsepower. They use the same axles as the 8.8 rears. If you weld the spiders or run a spool, you are asking for trouble. You will break axles turning on the street. Try to find an 80s ranger in a salvage yard. Rangers are good donors for 7.5 parts. I picked up a set of 3.73s and a traction lock for my 85 Mustang out of a Ranger years ago from American Auto Salvage. I wouldn't buy and 8.8 right now unless you come across something cheap. Just put that money towards making some horsepower and upgrade the rear end when you make enough horsepower to worry about breaking it.

Sounds like you need to decide if you want a toy or a fuel efficient vehicle. If fuel economy is what you want, buy a civic. Otherwise put 4.10s in and be done with it.

Get a nice sounding cat back on it with an off road H pipe and headers, it'll sound sweet. Straight pipes will sound like ass IMO.

i was planning on runing stock gt headers no cats or mufflers out the back..or end up throwing some dyno max straight threws on it

Badass is right, put a real exhaust on the car and do it right for a change. I would also throw one of your other many cars back together as a daily dirver and focus time on the Mustang. Speaking from experience, you are farther ahead with one good daily driver, slow or not, and one toy that can break and not put you in a transportation bind. Sell off some ofthe other vehicles, put the Quest or one of the TD cars back together for a daily(good gas mileage and still snappy), but leave them stock. Hell, you had a nice TBI Lebaron when we dropped of the turbo, drive that!
As far as the Stang, good exhaust, headers, some 4.10 gears, and a limited slip of some sort and even with the 3 speed it won't be too obnoxious on cruises.

well im sposta be getting the tbi lebaron back i sold it when i bought the gts from ray..i sold it fer 300 and am getting it back for free needs a radiator and tire(i got both)....... i can get the dyno max muffler sfer like 60-70 each at advanced ..is it nessisary to run a x or H pipe or can i run straights?
badass88gt
01-05-2005, 10:09 AM
They say the H or X is better for both performance and sound. H pipes are cheap, definately worth buying instead of bending up pipe to make straight pipes, cuz the will need to be bent, theyre not "straight".

See Eric, you're getting the idea. Drive the tbi Lebaron daily and build the Stang. Sell the Quest and all the other cars and just keep one daily and one toy. Use the money from the sale of the others to build the stang some.

Eric, just because someone makes the adapters to do it doesn't mean it will be more reliable. Once you start going past what was originally offered in the car, you will start running into problems. Trust me on that one.

Use an H-pipe. They are cheap. There is supposed to be some low end power gain in an H and X pipe but more importantly they are readily available in fit nicely. You will have a nightmare with custom bent pipes. I have been down this road and have yet to find anyone in this area that can bend pipes for a Mustang that don't hit the floor or any other part of the car. Get an H-pipe and a flowmaster cat back exhaust. You can probably find the parts used on ebay. I think Kraus has some stock turbine wheels for sale. Buy those and put some 26x8.5 slicks or 26x10.5 et streets on the rear. Leave the car ugly. Fast, ugly stock looking cars take lots of peoples money.

Listen to Darrell. I had a custom bent Off road H pipe on my stang when i bought it. When I installed the BBK long tubes and shortie H pipe I did some measuring on the shorty header H pipe. Seems the compression bend where the vertical pipe from the header bends to run underneath the car was crushed down to a 2" oval on a 2 1/2" pipe. You think that compression bend actually helped performance compared to stock with cats? Doubt it, a couple of guys at the track mentioned the car was pretty quiet too. Aftermarket used mandrel bent pipe can be had for $75 or so, new will only cost about $130-140. Cheaper than what a muffler shop can do a compression bent one for.

Take the plates off and load it on a trailer. This is a off road vehical or drag race only car. They can and will do it if that is the reason for new pipes. Just tell them that the car is not driven on the street.

I only read the forst post but I ass-ume that everyone told you to ditch the 7.5 for an 8.8, which would be the smartest thing to do IMO.
If you do stick with the 7.5, look for a 2wd Ranger with a v6/manual trans (3 or 4L), many of them have limited slip diffs. I have been pounding mine for 150k and t still works great (in my Ranger, anyway).

Tom's in Oshkosh put duals on my truck with no cat and never had a problem with it. I signed some sort of form, can't recall what it was though.
