Here is the plan, big engine, smaller car and mid 11's on less than 2000.00. I get sick when I see guys with $3-4-5000 in a small block chevy and still cant get 12's, or even 13's. Nothing beats the BOP engines for power, $$ for $$ In my opinion

turbo's, thatz all i gotta say
are you talking about the car and all, or just $2000 on the engine? i think it can be done if you spray it. otherwise i think it will be tough n/a. keep me informed, i would love to see it done.

HOT ROD did it but the car wasnt streetable, it was gutted to the max and the engine was almost in the passenger seat! how can you say the cad engine is junk, it has 500 ft lbs of torque!

its possable, the yellow regal in the avator did 11's and I sold it for 2300, that was a sad day!! ( pontiac 455) it helps that the car was only 3100 lbs

Its not hard, but the car wont be pretty. Chevy power would be much easier to do in then BOP. You can buy alot more used stuff for it to get it done. If you even need it. Hell its not that hard at all.....
Hell the motor last year in the daytona ran on pump gas and there was 500 bucks in that not counting the carb, but any cheap old 850 would have ran same. it went 10.59 yeah its drag only but it weights 2850, and another couple hundred pounds and that puts it at 10.79 now make is streetable and take away the good convertor and tranney and its still in the low 11s

well, It can be done cheap and look nice if you do everything yourself! If its that easy to do a smallblock why do guys spend ALOT, like sometime have 4000 in one and still cant beat my 800.oo junkyard motor??

If there are guys sticking $4000 into a small block chevy and can't run 11s, something is definitely wrong. You can buy a beat up 87-93 Mustang and put gears, slicks and a small shot of juice on it and run 11's all day long. I would think it would be just as simple with a Chevy. Parts are cheap and durable.
i only had around $1500 in my truck motor and i know with some traction it would have run a high 12. Put that same motor in a chevette and maybe 11's but 10's is pretty hard for $2000. Just the fabrication work alone to put a caddy motor in a chevette would be a nighmare. What did car craft do for a rear end, can't tell me they did a 10 with a stock one wheel wonder that wouldn't last behind lawn mower engine. I would have to believ it to see it.
I owned a caddy once..can't remember what it had in it for an engine, but all i remember the thing couldn't get out of its own way. As for a BOP motor, i'm all for it, i love poncho engines, if i had the money i would definatlely build one.

I wont say names, I will if asked in a PM, but an engine builder in town here charged a guy $6000 for a 383 smallblock rebuild, he had the engine already, with a shot of 150 Nos it still couldnt beat most high 13 sec cars!

That just goes to show why you should shop around for the best engine builder. Ther are very few up there I would trust. Lots of guys around that area can put together a stock type motor and it will run for a 100K but when you start talking race motor, there are very few and they are usually to busy to take care of us as they have regular customers that spend 1000's a year with them. I have seen just as many guys put together BOP motors that run low 14's to high 13's as there are chevies that do the same thing. Once again it all boils down to the combo. This is also one reason why the 5.0 has become so popular, as Darrell states, as you don't have to go into the engine to meet these goals. And low 12's are only an NOS kit away.

FREEBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FREEBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish Jegs would give me a Big Block Chevy!!

I think they went a little too far on the freebies on that project. Funny they made a big deal about the price of that transmission to rear-end coupler.................but they didnt mention one word about the cost of the blower and two Holleys..........Jegs must include blowers with thier 502 crate engines.

and do you notice they never hammer down on the projects, a few they do, the corvette truck( it was a mint big block vette!!!) I think they broke something, but the hot-dog cart looked like it was idling down the track. Oh ya, dont forget the MINI COOPER, a $$ 16,000 freebie

Jessie james is an awesome fabricator, but his connections and show sponsors make it easy.
As far as good machine shops, there are only 2 places my shop takes stuff... Automotive Machine and Welding in New Lisbon, and if they are booked(which happens all to often) We take it to Performance Machine in Tomah. Both are great shops to work with, and Joe from Automotive Machine and Welding is called Smokin' Joe for a reason! Sorry, didn't mean to sound like an ad for them, just had horrrible experience everywhere else. If you decide to get work done in New Lisbon, though, beware, there is another shop there that shall remain nameless, that cant even properly rebuild a Ford Explorer Trans, and will take no actions to correct the wrongs.
