I have a 1992 Jeep Wrangler with a stright 6 and a 5 speed with a hydraulic clutch, and yesterday i noticed something strange with the point where the clutch engages and disengages during the pedal travel. It will change from being where it should be dis/engaging (toward the top of the pedal travel) to doing it only about 1 1/2 inches off the floor, then the next time I push it in it will engage at about halfway, then it will go back to engaging by the floor, and will continue to switch around like that when I drive It. The point of clutch engagement will vary without warning. I know it sounds like there is air in the lines, but its not leaking any clutch fluid, so I dont know whats going on. Any ideas?

The slave would leak with those symptoms. I would say the clutch master cyl. or low fluid.

The jeep has 120,000 miles. When we first got it the point of engagement seemed to be unusually high, like right at the top of pedal travel, then it just started changing with no warning.

It happens to one out of every 1,000,000 cars but make sure the tranny is tight to the motor too.
This happend to one of our work trucks and the engagement started to get closer and closer to the floor.
