Nope. Darrell needs to create an avatar directory first, then it will work...

did you create the "avatars" director in the forums root directory or in the admin directory?

the correct path should be http://www.wisconsinstreetdominators.com/forum/images/avatars

Make sure the directory permissions are set to 755.

That should solve the issue. :D

The path is correct.........explain permissions to me like I am a second grader. I am not sure I fully understand.

You have to set the directory permissions to 755 or 777 depending on your server, so that uploads can take place via a browser. It's the process of "CHMOD"

When you create a new directory, you must tell the server what file permissions it should have- in other words, who can do what with it. There's "read only" read for global users, but no write.
Then there's "read global, write only for admin, then there's read/write global, etc etc...

Folders that you wish to allow uploads to are set 777 or 755 (security issues are why all folders are not set 777)

Permissions are now set at 777 which allows read, write and execute.

Whatever you did, it works great now! I am able to upload avatars from the cpanel, then add them to the avatar database, and then set them.

hmmmmmmm..........how are you doing it? I still can't upload an avatar. Are you choosing to upload from your computer or are you using a url?

Evil Greg

Ok... in the admin cpanel, I am selecting "upload avatars"
I then browse for the file from my images on my computer. I tell it that I want to put this file in /images/avatars and then I hit the submit button. WAIT- you are not done yet! You now have to go to the cpnael and select "ADD AVATARS". Here, you will see the uploaded avatars that have not been added to the vb yet- you check off the box of the one you wish to add, give it a name, and them hit submit. Now, when you go to "CHANGE AVATAR" from your user cpanel, the new avatar is there... :D

Avatar has to be a gif or JPEG. For the time being, you can't upload them. Darrell is working to resolve the issue and will notify everyone when he has the problem rectified....

The way it is sounding we might have to do what we did on the old site and have everyone email me what they want to use as an avatar.
