granted...................

while at the beer garden i heard that racing at wir will be done in 2007. i heard that the track will be sold to a developer from illinois to build condos. the people that told me this said that info can be found online. i have yet to find this info and hope it's not true. then i also heard that beaver dam will build a dragstrip once wir is a definite to close. i emailed bever dam this spring and they said they had no plans as of yet to build a dragstrip.

i guess we will see.

it always sucks to see something you love be torn down, especialy more when some F.I.B. comes in and builds condos or what ever on it...

I used to live in California (I am native cheesehead though!), and raced at Carlsbad Raceway. I heard rumors like this starting in 1985. I moved away from there in 1990. One of my friends just posted on MMA that the place will close this year. That means it has been nearly 20 years from when the rumors started to reality.
2007 is a ways away yet.

I talked to Dan about this rumor friday night after RSD. He said there is absolutely no truth in it. He said he heres the same rumor every year. The only thing that ever changes is the year it will shut down and the dollar figure. He said the last dollar figure he heard was 14 million. He said "if someone offered 14 million for this place, I would be living in Mexico right now". He said the track would be sold for the right price, but nobody has made any offers and it is not advertised as "for sale".

Anyone that was at the track last night should have heard over the PA that the closing was WAS NOT TRUE. I was there the day they opened the track. The only thing that I regret is that I missed about 30 years. I sure have had fun the last 10 year and have meet a lot of great people. See you saturday SX-44

See, this sounds like Deja Vu all over again...! ;)

I used to hear "I have info from the developer who bought this land, Carlsbad will close next year"

that was 1985

1989.... "It's a done deal man, my dad knows the builder and they will be grading this place in 6 months, better race while you can!"

And so on and so forth... Don't believe it until you see the bulldozers!!!

Knudson, I know Carlsbad IS closing for good, my point is that we heard the rumors going back to the mid 1980's. Took a LONG time before it hppened...
