As we all know, a FWD just doesn't have the "oomf" needed for a goot 1/4 run. This got me thinking... how can I make a FWD launch?
I came to one really cool conclusion..drive it backwards!
So the concept is to take a honda crx, and turn the engine-drivetrain assembly around. Next, figure out some way of making the now front (once rear) wheels steer. The rear wheels would have to be locked straight because rear wheel steering= major oversteer. Next we have to figure out how to get the linkages such as the gas and brakes to work. Power steering and brakes are optional because this is a track-only car. I'd use an automatic tranny because it would be easier.
By now the car is ready to drive. Early testing would probably reveal that the aerodynamics of the crx makes it unstable at speed. To solve this problem, we could buy one of those really big wings, or use a hood prop rod (reinforced prop rod) to hold the hood open and get the same effect.
Because we can probably lighten the thing up with the help of a sawzall, that crx will be one featherweight. I bet we could cut the 60' times in half and run 3 seconds faster in the 1/4 than stock!
Disclaimer- I have no money for such a poject and will never do this unless I win the lottery.
