So I'm trying to get my car aligned. First I replaced the tie-rods, center link and idler arm. I went to the shop and they recommended that I do the wheel bearings and remove the slop in the steering box.

What is the trick to working on the steering box? Can it be adjusted/tightened up or do I have to buy a new one?

Thanks in advance

Greg

you can adjust them a little there is a jam nut and a slotted stud on top of the box usually a 5/8ths nut loosen it and turn the slotted stud about 1/4 turn tighten the jam nut raise the front wheels off the ground and see how it feels at the steering wheel do this over again until the slop is gone and there is no tight spots while turning the wheel . if you go too tight it will bind up and you will feel it in the steering wheel . back it off 1/8th to 1/4 until tight spot is gone .
give it a try can't hurt . make sure you tighten the jam nut !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
