HOLY CRAP!!!! the tires for the wife's a car are expensive.

Anyone know of cheaper tire places that won't want my first born?

The size is P245/50R18

The original tires are Bridgestone Turanza's. best price I found was $1144. The tires lasted 72,000 miles, but were not the greatest in the snow and slop. Bridgestone makes a lower level tire that goes for $910 a set, but the treadwear is pretty low.

From what I've read the Michelins($1226) suck in the snow. Toyo's($1030) take around 3-4 weeks to get here from Japan. Dunlap Sport Max's($1300) are discontinued.

I like the Yokohama Advan S4, but the best price I found was $1250 + tax.

DAMN!!! I should have been putting away $25 a month just for tires.

I usally buy my tires from discount tire. Good prices and fast shipping. Then i'll just pay some one local $40 to mount and balance them.

Thats a weird size. Thats more money that tires for my truck and that thing has 20's on it.

Tire Rack and Discount Tire are about the cheapest I've found.

i work for firestone and i still shop at discount tire and tirerack. they are cheaper than firestone even with my employee discount. plus bridgestones are good tires but not the best and dont even think of getting the "bridgestone/firestone" house tires brands. they are junk.

see that's the problem. I looked on Tire rack and Discount. Both had the same prices. I can get stock replacements for $173 a piece. I can get the yokohamas for $212 a piece. The issue I have is the places locally want to rape me in the ass to have them installed. Matthews is a recommended installer on tire rack and Van Zeelands on discount, but when I called them for a quote telling them I had the price on the website right in front of me they said "yes we get them from there"???? How in the hell does that work?

212 x 4 = 848
46 for shipping
say 4 x 4 for disposal
say 20 x 4 for mounting/balancing
say 5 x 4 for metal valve stems

that comes out to $1010, still a shitload for god damned tires, but the quote was $1250

hell even for stockers the best quote was $910

like matthews, firestone orders them from tirerack or discount tire and then charges you for the tires plus shipping. depending on where u go you can get them mounted and balanced for free with the purchase from there store.Go to firestone up in appleton and talk to ray garbe. he was our manager down here for awhile and was absolutely awesome. he will do anything to make the customer happy. bring the price quote with you and bring it in to him and tell him Joe from the fond du lac store told me to get my special friends discount from you (ray) because he hates his store manager down there and doesnt want him to profit from it. You must talk to ray though, there are a couple of other guys up there that will only ☺☺☺☺ you over.Let me know how it goes and see what ray can do for you.

They are 18" tires, how cheap do you think they are going to be??? $200 a piece is probably about average for an 18" tire.

i have no problem with the price I figured on that. its the almost $350 to mount and balance that I don't get. It just seem odd that last year I bought a full set of wheels(17" torqlites) and tires(Nitto 450) for the Pontiac and it was less than $1000 delivered.

Bring your tires and wheels over to Point and I can get them mounted for cheap at a friends shop. When I say cheap, I mean CHEAP.

$350 to mount and balance is just a rape job because you arent purchasing their tires. When I did that for a living, the shop I worked at charged $25 a mount, included balance and valve stem.

look into a set of aftermarket wheels and tire combo might be cheaper throwing 20s on her car and look cooler

I'm coming up with $116 with the numbers you posted which is a little high. Around here its $15 a tire for mount/balance/valve stems/disposal. If someone told you $350, then you know not to do business with them because they are crooks.

Call around, most places i've ever called was $30 to $50 for all four mounted and balanced. With a dismount may be alittle more...but $350 thats fricken insane. Discount has the continentals for $152 each shipped. Thats $608 for all four, even if you spend $100 on mounting, balancing and stems your still almost $300 ahead.

Thanks for the help guys. Especially Chris. I called the dealership and got a price. I took that price and called Matthew's. They had already ordered and received my tires, so I jewed them down a little. Got them put on today for $1051. Hopefully these last 72000+ miles like the stockers did.

Little late but in the past I used tirerack to pick tires then looked for an authorized installer, called said installer and told them I could pay them the tirerack price and let them make a little margin plus the mount and balance or I could just have them drop shipped and they would only get the mount and balance. They said thank you and ordered them right away.

Think about it, any shop listed as an installer for them probably has a wholesale account with them. By doing what I did I kept a little more money in the community and got a better price than just walking in off the street.

This year when we needed tires for my wife's car they gave us a discount and they know I am buying snows for my wagon. Establish a relationship with a small local shop and be good to eachother. Heck last time I brought them slicks to mount they were extra nice.
