on my olds...i have 2 carter afb 625 carbs. same thing as the edelbrocks. when i matt it...the front carb excelerator pump pisses gas onto the windshield and i canot see a dam thing. the guy i got the car from said he has tried changing all seals gaskets and anything else he can think of and it would not go away. i thought of just buying another carb thinking maybe the body was machined just a little to large there but you cannot get a afb any more unless you find someone that has one on the shelf. do i just get a pair of edelbrocks? that kinda sucks to spend that much to fix that. HELP!:bash:

Carters and Eldebracks are garbage carbs in my opinion. I would personally go with two 750 dominators or a single 1000 CFM dominator. I think that you woudl find with the proper tuning on that car with the new carbs you will be more consistant and make much better power.

I read somewhere that runnign too small of carbs jetted rich for tuning purposes, still will run too rich of a mixture as opposed to a larger carb jetted down.

I sell Carter AFB carbs. Who says they don't make them anymore? Did you try swapping the carbs front to rear and see if the problem follows the carb? You may have a signal issue related to the supercharger that might be a simple vacuum line rerouting to fix. Carter carbs are not known for their horsepower capabilities but they are reliable.

I know my dad always had holleys then tried a edelbrock and said they`d never go back to a holley again. But then again that`s on his pickup.A little different situation.

carbs have been swapped front to back and it is carb specific. he had 2 holly's on and said it performed alot better, pulled like a s.o.b. but he had a really hard time trying to get a smooth idle and he said they leaked all the time so he went to these carters. if i were to change i would need a side saddle linkage. darrel, shoot me the price of a new carb and then shoot me a price for a pair of dominator 750 with linkage. the computer says with my motor i need like 1350 cfm of carb. all i no is it is really irritating...and dangerous! gets REALLY hard to see when nose is in air and it all becomes a blur!

He must have had the old side hung holleys on it. Those damn things always leaked at the transfer tube. The Carter will run you about $240. You don't want to run dominators if the blower top isn't set up for them The adapters to mount them to a non dominator base will rob all the flow that you gain from them. A pair of 750 double pumpers will be just short of $800.

$800 with a side saddle linkage or wont i need that? can you get 2 double pumpers to fit inline????

No, most likely they won't fit inline. I'll try to kick up a price on some linkage and get back to you with what I find.

that would be cool. i have to take it all apart soon so i have a little time to come up with a game plan but getting some figures will get me going.
