I have a mallory unilite disributor, now is it possible that this serves in place of an ignition box??

Probably not but it is possible. You are very vague on your description so it is hard to say. Some distributors have the electronics in them and others don't.

'88 mustang, carbed 302 it's got those goofy ignition modules that go inside the distributor that always go to hell if there's no power filter inline

I think you mean "ballast resister"

No i mean ignition module and power filter, I do have a ballast resistor wired inline though
